Track recorded in Abbey Street Studios over the course of an afternoon, Winter 2021.
Influences were drawn from time spent playing Afro-Cuban music working with various montuno, tumbao, and cascara rhythms as well as research on the development and evolution of Calypso music in Trinidad and Tobago as part of study focusing on Music of The African Diaspora.
Vocal samples used feature fragments of poet Louise Bennett-Coverley describing a Jamaican musical ring game sourced from National Library of Jamaica as well as Nigerian percussionist Ginger Baker's, Mambo Contempo.
We use these samples with respect and deep appreciation for the rich and profoundly beautiful music and culture we have been lucky enough to be moved and inspired by.
All of the profits for this release will go directly to, Saved By Music Foundation, a charitable organization based in Mbale, Eastern Uganda. The foundation operates at a grassroots level using music as a means of social empowerment within vulnerable communities, particularly at risk youth.
